Cameron and Hikari: Training Empty Cameron and Hikari: Training

Post by Cedahlia Thu Nov 17, 2016 10:55 pm

Cameron had summoned Hikari to the training room. He'd cleared everything out that would distract her. "Okay, what we're going to start with is a simple exercise in sensing water. I'm going to cover your eyes and summon water in different parts of the room and you have to try to find it. Sound good?"

"You didn't really give me a choice, but it doesn't sound bad." Hikari laughed, she was just teasing him. That seemed like an easy enough thing to do, right?

"No I didn't," Cameron said. "This is a very basic exercise but it's the foundation of a lot of what you'll do. You'll be able to use it to sense other Maelstroms as well as water fiends, which will be useful for when you need allies." He put a blindfold over her eyes. "Ready?"

"Oh that's neat." Hikari said and then nodded. She thought she was ready. But how could you tell with these things? Especially when she hadn't done it before.

Cameron summoned a ball of water. He floated it so that it was to her right. "It's in position. See if you can sense where it is."

Hikari was quiet. She just focused on the room around her. If anything felt different, she didn't notice it. Not at first. She sighed. "How am I supposed to sense it? Is it just... I should just know?"

"No, it's harder than that. You have a connection to water within you. It's just not developed. It helps to envision the water. Clear your mind. Think of nothing else. Just the water. What does it smell like? How does it feel?" Cameron walked around the room as he spoke to her. He kept his voice level and calm.

"Wet?" Hikari joked, but she did what Cameron said. Focused on nothing but the water. She thought... Maybe? She held her hand out to the right and pointed. "There? I'm wrong, aren't I?"

"No. You found it," Cameron said, pleased. He dismissed the water and made another one above her. "Let's try again. Feel a little bit more confident. It is in you."

"You have so much confidence in me..." Hikari said quietly, it was helpful, but she also didn't want to make a fool of herself and disappoint him. She did the same again until she tilted her head up and cocked it to one side. "You drop that on me and you're in a lot of trouble."

Cameron laughed. "Very good. I'm going to have it move. You'll need to track it," he said and started to move the water slowly around the room.

Hikari's eyebrows furrowed. It moving was a lot harder to follow than just finding it being stationary. "I'm going to follow it, but don't let me trip into anything." She said, because she was giving him a lot of trust doing that. Walking under it slowly was easy though, he was being her eyes, technically.

Cameron was an excellent trainer. He guided her smoothly across the room for a full minute before he had her stop. "Very good," he aaid, clearly pleased. "You're picking this up easily. Now I'm going to have you sense me and the water. You're going to need to differentiate between the two. It will help you in the field to know if you're sensing a fiend or actual water." He set that up and waited for her.

"Talk me through it," Hikari said because that had helped her before. Plus she just liked listening to him talk. She realised that technically the potential for moments here was strong, but she figured Cam was too focused and wouldn't notice it.

Cameron thought that she might be able to follow his voice to find him. But even if she did find him, she still had to focus on the differences between him and the water on the opposite side of the room. "Remember how you focused on finding the water? Think of that now, but more solid. Think of something that embodies water and smells of water, but is not water itself. And if that's too hard, try and sense the shape and size of it. Eventually your sense will be so good that you'll be able to tell what the shape and depth of the water is and you can do the same for your potential allies."

"Okay." Hikari said, she wasn't cheating by asking him to help. But his verbal explanation helped. The water was distracting too, it made it harder for her to focus on him and it both. But she walked towards where she thought he was and put her hand on his chest after a fair few minutes of concentrating. "found you, didn't I?"

"You did," Cameron said and took off her blindfold. "Well done. I think that's enough sensory training today. You picked that up quick. Most Maelstroms would need a week of work to be able to do what you've accomplished in just an hour." He was very proud of her. But he'd expected no less from the Princess of Water. Her natural affinity would be much higher than other's.

"That's a good thing right? Not some creepy bad thing?" Hikari said because it could be a bad thing. Like she was on some kind of water steroids. She smiled at him when he removed her blindfold though.

"It's a very good thing," Cameron assured her. "You're right where you need to be with learning." She was close enough that he could put his arms around her and he certainly thought about it but in the end chose not to. That would be far too forward. "Now we can end training here or we can continue. It depends on what you're up to."

"I'm excited to learn other things, what else can you teach me?" Hikari asked, she was eager to learn which was a definite bonus in this situation. "I'm so tired of being useless, I want to be able to help them when we go on missions. With more than my smarts and being able to punch people in the face."

Cameron laughed. "Punching people in the face is definitely useful. Not a lot of people know how to punch properly," he said. "Let's focus on summoning water then, yes? For this one, you're going to have to sense inside of yourself and feel the water that's within you. Hold out your hand like this," he said and held her arm straight out in front of her, turning her hand over so that her palm was up. "Focus in your mind on the water within you being there in your hand. Think again of what is to you, how you would describe it, and imagine it there."

"That sounds easy." Hikari said, at least she thought so. She concentrated on the palms of her hand until a small circle of water appeared. "Aw, but that's boring. I wanted it to be a mermaid..."

Cameron laughed again. "Of course you did. Don't worry about shape yet. That you made it materialize at all on your first try is good enough. Not try and increase its size," he directed. "Again, visualize it how you want it to be. Focus on that."

"I want it to be a mermaid!" Hikari insisted and giggled, but then she concentrated. She really, really wanted a mermaid. One bigger than the small size of water in her hand. A big one, that she could make swim around the room and it would be awesome and beautiful. However, she was not yet awesome enough. Almost, but not quite. The small ball turned into a bigger ball, as her eyebrows furrowed in concentration and it was physically labouring her to push so hard. It even turned into a mermaid for a couple of seconds, before splashing into her hands. "Yes!" She said and pumped her fist into the air. "Mermaids." She said cockily.

Cameron face palmed, laughing. "I'm not sure how that's going to help you in battle but you're showing better control. So there's that..." He walked just a little bit away from her and faced her. "Okay, I want you to materialize the ball of water again. And this time I want you to try to pass it to me."
