Trapped: Strife, Wolf, and Alex Empty Trapped: Strife, Wolf, and Alex

Post by Cedahlia Thu Apr 13, 2017 8:41 pm

Strife was a very special dragon with a very odd name.  He was special in that he was the only fiend ever created by the Beings of Emotion.  They were more well known for creating humanity and as such had gifted their own fiend child with the ability to take that form. Such a blessing always came from them but for Strife it was the easiest of all things to do.  He was a rare combination of dragon and fairy, something that was a total opposite. Like a creature of fire and water.  But it happened.  He was also a reflection of his three fathers.  It meant that his skills were rather varied but pretty centered on what made humans, humans. And what gave fiends those abilities to connect with the world around them and with each other as well.  Which specialty he was at the moment was reflected in the color of his scales or his hair, form depending.  For emotion, he was pink. For knowledge, he was yellow. And for willpower, he was blue.

His name was a different matter. Strife meant conflict, a bitter disagreement.  That wasn’t really what he was and while sometimes he felt his name was pretty edgy, it sometimes made him feel like a villain. While the idea was amusing, it wasn’t always comforting. He had asked but his fathers had pretty much avoided the issue.

Still, it was hard to look like a villain in his fiend form. He was such a tiny dragon. Easily portable. He could change his size as needed but his default was pretty small. It made him harder to catch.  And lots of Tamers tried to catch him. Rare fiends were definitely highly sought after. There was only one of him so he was super rare. Not incredibly powerful as he was still pretty young but that only factored so much.

Strife had no intention of getting caught. He didn’t want to serve a Tamer. He wanted to be free to explore the world and do as he wished.  He loved to travel, meet all kinds of new fiends, and play with the humans. They were so much fun to play with. He couldn’t hurt them. His fathers were not okay with that.  But a little mischief was still fun.

Until it wasn’t.

Strife was stuck in an enchanted forest.  He’d come to help a group of adorable deerling work through some issues.  And somehow he’d gotten stuck in an infinite loop trap. He couldn’t leave the one section of the forest he was stuck in. He tried until he realized what it was.  And once he realized that he figured out how to undo it. But unfortunately he couldn’t break the trap.  The magic was specifically against his own kind. And against fiends. So really, only a human could do it. A human possessing magic.

Great.

He was going to be waiting a long time for that. Brave or stupid humans came into enchanted forests.  They also very often got lost, eaten, cursed, enchanted, and all sorts of other inconvenient things that rendered them completely useless to him.

At first, being trapped wasn’t so bad.  He spent the time lounging in trees and wondering who had set up the trap. It was very specific to him but no one came to catch him. No one came at all. So…why put the trap there? And how had they known he would even be there?

After a while it got boring. He was trapped in a very pretty forest with lots of interesting things to look at and listen to but it was still a trap, still a cage. And even a pretty cage got boring.

Strife got to the point where he spent almost all his time sleeping in the comfiest tree branches. Even that was boring. Who wanted to sleep their life away? He’d even burned his section of the forest down in anger once. But it grew right back, same as it had been before, by the next morning.

So then he’d taken to carving symbols into the trees. But they disappeared with the sun every morning too.

Now he’d just burn the forest down every few days for something to do. He knew it wouldn’t stick but at least it meant he’d have his branches to sleep in again when he got bored of the soot and ash.

Wolf wasn't stupid, he was certainly brave though. He had chased a fiend into this forest. He had hunted it for days, after its latest binge on eating people.

Pretty gross. However, it didn't take wolf long to figure out that he kept going in circles. It frustrated him, he took a knife from his pocket and marked the tree with the direction he'd gone in.

He would eventually mark them all, until he found a way out. Or... Well, until they were all marked.

Trapped: Strife, Wolf, and Alex Empty Re: Trapped: Strife, Wolf, and Alex

Strife was napping in his second favorite tree branch. It was lower to the ground than he liked but it was comfortable and had a decent amount of shade from the sun once it had risen to a good point in the sky. He was only lightly napping. The sound of something walking below woke him fully. He just listened, trying to gauge if the creature walked on only two feet or four. Or perhaps more than that. Insects could have multiple legs. He shuddered. He hoped it wasn't one of those. He'd never been a fan. They didn't even taste all that nice. Then again...he could use some food. He was sure it had been at least a weak since the last unsuspecting creature had wandered into the trap. Thankfully, time was somewhat frozen so he never got actually hungry. But out of habit, he did want to eat more than once every never.

The creature revealed itself. A human. Strife's shoulders sagged with disappointment. He couldn't eat one of those. For one, he wasn't allowed. And secondly, he just wasn't big enough. He almost sighed but caught himself as the human passed below his tree. He studied him for a moment and wondered which kind of human he was to come in here. Brave, stupid, or desperate? It was hard to judge just from looking at someone if they were an idiot. Anyone could be. Bravery was equally hard to judge. But the guy didn't look desperate. At the moment he just looked annoyed.

Strife was curious. What was his story? If he wasn't fleeing into the forest to escape something or someone and he wasn't going in to find something to help himself or someone else, then why was he here? A dare? Maybe. Human teenagers did some pretty stupid shit to prove themselves worthy to their friends or whatever the point of all that was.

He watched the human pass his tree a few times and laughed quietly when the guy marked one of the trees. So he'd caught on that he was passing the same spot over and over. That hadn't taken as long as Strife had thought. He wondered if this human might actually be useful to him. Did he have any magic? That was really what he needed. But he'd have to just wait and see. "You know," he said, decided to reveal himself and get this little plot of his going, "they don't much like being marked."

"Hm, yeah. I don't much like being trapped either, so I guess we are both shit out of luck." Wolf said, he did stroke the tree trunk softly. He didn't like having to hurt it. "You know how to get out?"

Strife dropped out of the tree and landed lightly on his feet. "Maybe," he said. "But I'm not just going to give the information away to just anyone who wanders into this wood."

"Oh big shot," Strife said with a laugh. "Well I hate to break it to you, Master Human, but you've gotten caught up in this little infinite loop the same as any regular human would. The magic doesn't really care if you're just anyone. And I might be inclined to agree with the magic. Still..." He looked thoughtful. "I can be persuaded to give you the answer to the way out."

Wolf narrowed his eyes as he looked at the person? Fiend? In front of him. "Well I mean, isn't it enough that I'm helping you get out too? Seeing as the magic doesn't care who you are either..." see? Not stupid.

"I never said I was stuck," Strife said. It didn't bother him that the guy was narrowing his eyes. Or assuming. Strife disappeared and reappeared behind the human Master. He looked him over. "What are you doing here? No one just comes into this forest without a reason." He wasn't going to mess with the Master. They were also specially made by the Beings of Emotion. That kind of made Strife this guy's brother. Which he thought was kind of funny. But he wasn't going to say that. The Masters didn't tend to know those sorts of things.

Strife tilted his head to the side. "I was sleeping." He gestured to the tree they were standing closest to. "This one is my second favorite to nap in." He looked around and seemed to be listening to something. Then he closed his eyes and went very still. His hair changed from a soft blonde to an alarming shade of pink.

What he was doing was rather interesting but not something that was easy to explain to those who couldn't do it. In simplest terms, he was feeling the emotions of the forest and those that lived within it. Feelings often gave away when something had gone wrong. There was a harmony, a certain buzz that all places gave off from the things that lived inside of them.

A disruption as large as the creature being hunted certainly was obvious in the emotions of the forest and its residents. "Your prey seems to be further North...It's not stuck in here with you. Sorry. You'll have to get out to catch it." He opened his eyes.

Strife shrugged. "I don't exactly want anything in particular," he said. Because at the moment, all he needed was this guy to let him out of the trap. But he wasn't going to say that and put the power in the human's hands. They sometimes got weird when they had power over fiends. He really didn't want to see how this one acted, especially when he was a Master of some kind. Not of his kind. He would feel that.

"What are you willing to trade?" he asked curiously.

"I could do one job for you. One. As a Hunter. Or I can protect you, or someone else for a reasonable amount of time. Just don't take the piss." Wolf said, because he wasn't into that. "I don't know what you are, but I know someone that does and if you jerk me around... Well."

"My you're not trusting at all, are you?" Strife said with a grin. "Smart of you. But you don't have to worry about me. I'm not out to pull your leg." Much. "I like what you have to offer. It's a deal. Your future services in exchange for your freedom." He put his hand out to shake on the deal. He knew humans like to do that.

"I'm called Strife," he answered. There was a nearly imperceptible twitch of his lips that showed he wasn't actually a fan of the name he'd been given. "There's a weak spot in a gap between two particular trees. I'm assuming as a Master you can wield magic? You'll need something destructive for this."

"Destructive? Hmm." Wolf said thoughtfully as he went over to where Strife had pointed. He used night slash against it, a dark streak moved against the weakness. Allowing it to fall away and setting them free.

The move itself and the result of it were both pretty flashy. Strife knew that it had worked and he couldn't help but smile. The human had gone along so well with it all. He'd even got a favor out of getting the guy to set him free. Not a bad day, all in all. But with the fall of the infinite loop came a different sort of magic. Nothing that would actively affect them. Strife might have been the only one to notice it. But something went out away from their location. He figured it was a message to whoever had set up the trap for him, informing them that he was now free.

"You shouldn't linger here," he said, eager to be away now that he was free. He'd seen enough of the forest to last him half a lifetime. "Your prey isn't too far, still North."

Trapped: Strife, Wolf, and Alex Empty Re: Trapped: Strife, Wolf, and Alex

Post by Cedahlia Thu Apr 13, 2017 8:46 pm

Time passed.

A friendship was struck up between Wolf and Strife. But it was not the normal sort of friendship. They bantered back and forth, often teasing or seeming harsh to each other. Anyone watching them could see that they were friends but if you actually said that to them they would deny it and act like they didn't even like the other person at all. But for all their protests it was true. They were friends for all they messed about.

Now Strife knew that he had tricked Wolf. And for him that was honestly enough. He had been terribly bored and it had given him something fun to do in the moment. He hadn’t ever actually meant to take him up on the offer of the favor. He’d just wanted it promised for his own amusement.

But things in life never exactly went the way you wanted or expected. And something rather awful happened in Strife’s life that meant he needed that favor. So he walked into the Manticore for what was really the first time, as they’d always just run into each other out in the wilds of the world before, and searched for Wolf. As luck would have it, he was there, and Strife walked over to the table he was sitting down at and sat down with him.

“Hey, you busy,” he asked, a less colorful greeting than he usually gave.
