Alex and Nel
The Manticore
One year later.
Alex was sitting on his table reading a book and absently popping blueberries into his mouth. The bar was actually pretty quiet at the moment. He was one of the few people awake. Some of the fiends he'd collected on his walks were about as well, of course. But for the most part, those Hunters that were there were either having an early breakfast or sleeping.

Re: Alex and Nel
Nel poked her head out from behind the bar and looked at Alex. It was quiet. But there was still people between her and Alex.
"Girl," Maggie laughed as she looked at Nel being a creeper. "You're so cute, move that tushie, your breakfast is getting cold."
"But..but Maggie." Nel said, but she was already being shoved towards Alex's usual table. She clutched at her skirt as she shuffled quickly and then slid into the table beside Alex and smiled. "Good morning, Alex." She said softly.

Re: Alex and Nel
Alex looked up from his book. "Good morning, Nel," he replied. He set his book down with a fiend shaped bookmark to hold his page. He glanced over at the bar and at Maggie. She must have pushed the girl to come over. Nel was pretty sure, especially surrounded by gruff looking men. "How are you feeling?"
Re: Alex and Nel
"I'm okay," Nel responded, pulling her breakfast closer to her. She had a fruit salad same as Alex, but also pancakes. "I think. How are you?"
Re: Alex and Nel
"The same as I have been," Alex answered with a little smile. His situation hadn't really changed any. He popped another blueberry into his mouth. "Big plans for the day?"
Re: Alex and Nel
"Hiding, like always. Do you have any?" Nel giggled, Alex was so good about giving her routine and she needed it. He always asked the same questions and she nearly always gave the same answer.
Re: Alex and Nel
Alex knew the things to say. He knew how to be to make her comfortable. "I need more books," he said. That happened sometimes. The room he'd been given was mostly used for storing his books. There was hardly a thing else in it.
Re: Alex and Nel
"Are you going... Shopping?" Nel asked, she very rarely went out. But she also liked books. "I like books..."
Re: Alex and Nel
"I was thinking about it," Alex said and then looked at her for a moment. "You should come with me. It's so early in the morning that not many of the people in town will be awake." Plus the person who ran the bookshop was a woman. Middle aged.
Re: Alex and Nel
"Oh can I?" Nel said, suddenly excited. She loved books. "Does she have old books? I love old books. First editions. I used to have Through the looking glass before..." She trailed off and tears filled her eyes. Her ex had set it on fire and thrown it at her.
Re: Alex and Nel
"What kind of bookshop would this be if she didn't?" Alex said. "I don't buy my books at some useless little place." He didn't comment on the tears. She didn't need him to point out that she was in pain. He already knew that and so did she. Dwelling on old memories wasn't a good thing. She needed to make new ones. "There's plenty of old books. Those are always my favorite. You can come with me. We can carry more between the two of us."
Re: Alex and Nel
"Oh yes," Nel said, distracted from that. "Can I see your books later?" She asked curiously, she could imagine he had many.
Re: Alex and Nel
"Yes," Alex said. "If you find ones you like then you can keep them. The ones I have here are mostly duplicates." He only had them because he couldn't access his main collection.
Re: Alex and Nel
"Oh, no I couldn't take them from you." Nel said, because she'd feel mean. "But I'd love to borrow them."
Re: Alex and Nel
"That's fine also," Alex said. "I'll have no need of them once I'm free. But I suppose if you don't want any then Bobby will..." Probably.
Re: Alex and Nel
"Oh, I don't mind sharing them with people who need." Nel said, especially if he didn't need them. "Bobby is nice." She commented as she ate some of her fruit.
Re: Alex and Nel
"Yes, I like him," Alex said. He finished the rest of his fruit and stood up, turning off his music. "When you're ready," he said. He was willing to wait.
"Are you going out?" Cataya asked, suddenly appearing next to him. "Where are you going? Can I go with?"
"Nel and I are going to the bookshop," Alex said.
"Oh...boring," Cataya said and looked at Nel. She was good with books. Cataya? Not so much. It wasn't like she could read them. "Outside is outside though," she decided with a shrug.

Re: Alex and Nel
"Don't you like stories?" Nel asked as she wiped her hands and mouth on a napkin and then stood up. She manouerved her long skirts around the seat as she joined Alex. "Maybe we should shop for clothes too, so Aya isn't bored?"
Re: Alex and Nel
"We can do that," Alex said. Not that he would buy clothes. "You should get a few new things. It's been a while."
"Yay!" Aya said. "Oh you have no idea how badly I've been wanting to dress you. You're going to look amazing!"
"She needs real clothes," Alex reminded her.
"I know!" Aya said. "She's human. I know what they wear."

Re: Alex and Nel
"Oh, you don't like my style?" Nel asked quietly, a little disappointed. She loved her dark clothes, they fit her gift.
Re: Alex and Nel
"Girl you are a princess. You need to look like one," Aya said with some sass. But she was a dark faerie. Nel moght not be her princess but she was close.
Re: Alex and Nel
"You don't think I do?" Nel asked with a laugh, because she often wore skirts. Admittedly, they weren't always as princessy as they had been in another time line.
