How to Unlock a Steel Heart

"I don't know what they look for I'm not important enough to have a chosen of that level," Cameron said. "But she wouldn't have picked you if there wasn't something there."

"Probably. So what does being a demigod mean? Especially as you are quite commonly and affectionately known as the patron saints of lost causes." Hikari said with a grin, she loved their cute nickname for their friendly gods.

"Being in the lower pantheon means that your realm isn't as essential to life functioning normally and smoothly. I can make a small difference in my realm with a specific group of people but I can't change the world like my mother or uncle," Cameron answered.

"That's fun regardless, right?" Hikari said, changing the world was sometimes better done by small things rather than large. "Are you full? Maybe you want to try some bread? Or more water?"

Cameron shook his head. "I'm not very hungry..." Which was definitely weird for a teen boy. They ate all the time. He was not an exception. But right now he just couldn't think about stomaching more of the broth and water.

"That's fine. Just let me know when you are. I'm not leaving until you're fully better." Hikari said, she had spare clothes for herself. Palkia would likely drop some off for Cameron. "You're not so dirty any more, but if you want a bath or shower I can help with that."

Cameron realized that she was right. He wasn't all that dirty. Not like he had been. "Did you bathe me?"  Having a young girl bathe him, even while he was unconscious was a bit strange.

"Well, not conventionally. I had to clean your wounds and such." Hikari said, but she was still only 14 and naked boys was far, far too much for her brain. "So I sort of used water to do it without really touching you because I did figure you wouldn't want to be touched, or really looked at without permission."

"Oh. Thank you," Cameron said, relieved. He was not comfortable with the idea of a young girl giving him a bath. She was old enough to be into boys and that made things a bit awkward.

"No problem, I will be honest and say it wasn't just for you, I felt weird enough looking at your abs." Hikari said with a giggle, she was just a teen after all. "They're nice and all, but yeah. Unconscious boys aren't really my thing."

"I would hope not," Cameron said with a weak smile that was barely noticeable. He sighed softly and closed his eyes. Despite sleeping for so long, he felt tired.

Hikari tucked him in a bit. "Do you like music?" She asked, she thought it would help him be calm.

"Yes," Cameron replied. What teen didn't like music? Either to get pumped up, go have fun, to relax or concentrate, music was good for all kinds of things.

"Okay," Hikari said and plug her music player into a dock so it played softly in the room. "Fair warning, I haven't slept since I got you out, so I might pass out." She said and slipped onto the floor beside his bed.

Cameron opened his eyes and then closed them again once he'd figured out that she was laying down. "You shouldn't push yourself for me," he said. He hadn't been conscious for the battle between her and his captor but he couldn't imagine it had been easy.

"I had to be sure you was okay first." Hikari said, she wasn't really laying down. Just leaned against the side of the bed. "I physically couldn't sleep until you woke." She said and then yawned a little bit.

"Well I've woken up so you can rest now," Cameron said. If was sure she needed it. She might even sleep longer than he did.

"I know," Hikari yawned again. She closed her eyes and just rested. But she wasn't going to sleep until she knew he was.

A week passed. Cameron would normally be quickly bored of the same boring room. There was not much to do when resting and healing. But it was such a challenge to recover that he hadn't yet gotten to that point until recently. As much as he wanted to see outside, he kept the curtains closed. It made him feel safer after being stalked and kidnapped.

Hikari had left for just a small amount of time. No longer than thirty minutes. "I brought you food." She said as she came in through the door. "I have Chinese, or burgers and fries. I wasn't sure which you'd prefer." She said as she put it down on the table. She had another bag with her. "I need a shower." she'd had them daily, but not with her own products and she hadn't had make up or clothes that were cute for ages. "I can wait if you need company?"

"No, I'm fine," Cameron said. He left the bed to look at the food she had brought. He was used to being active so it was frustrating for him to feel weak. He wanted to get outside and exercise again. But he wasn't there yet. Soon. But not yet. He looked through the food and decided on the Chinese food.

"Yeah, I suppose you're bored of my face now." Hikari chuckled softly as she disappeared into the bathroom. "Save me some noodles!"

"Sure, I'll save you two or three," Cameron joked. He wasn't actually tired of Hikari's company. She was not much like his sister, which was a nice break for him. He was very close to his twin but she was not the easiest person to chill with. Hikari was very chill which was perfect for when recovering.

Hikari laughed, loud enough for him to hear and then got in the shower. She was usually very active, but she was also very good with going with the flow. She didn't take so long in the shower, though she really wanted too. Her shower gel and hair products smelled so much nicer than what she was using before.

Towel dried and hair left down for the first time in weeks, clothes that weren't sweats and she felt so much more... Human. "So did you eat all the noodles?" She asked as she came back out, "I'm going to tackle you if you did."

Cameron chuckled. "I thought about it..." He pushed the box of noodles towards her. "But no, I left you half." They had so much food that he figured that was fine. He picked at a few fries but he wasn't a huge fan of food that was fried. It left a weird taste in his mouth. His sister shared that with him. They usually gave their fried foods to their friends.
